Josef Dabernig was born in 1956 in Kötschach-Mauthen, Austria. He graduated in Sculpture from the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna in 1981. His work then gradually went to other media such as photography and text. In the 80s, he started researching the complex spatial model on the basis of ar
hitectural landscapes which transform by mathematical principles. The motif of grids is one of the main ones in his works, from structured aluminium grids, early works in sculpture, conceptual lists and textual works, all the way to photo-panoramas of football stadiums and films. He has been active in film since 1994. His films border experimental, they talk on the human every day and the relationship of the natural and built environment. Some of his films are "Wisła" (1996), "River Plate" (2013) i "Hypercrisis" (2011). He is also researching certain phenomena of contemporary life such as healthy living, stereotypes on men and women - for example in the films "Excursis in Fitness" (2010) or "Jogging" (2000). He lives in Vienna.
